The Concept of Childline Malaysia :

Childline Malaysia is a national 24-hour free phone emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection and aims to link children to long-term services.

The key concepts are as follows:

  •

Is Nationwide :
Childline Malaysia is to be a privately funded project, run in partnership with NGOs, CLI, UNICEF, the State Government and the corporate sector.

Is 24-hour :
Childline Malaysia should be accessible at all times.

Is free phone:
Any child/concerned adult can call free of charge.

  •

Sees through the emergency:
A crisis period in the child's life during which intervention is required. This period could last from the time of the call to such time that withdrawing assistance would put the child back into crisis.

Provides an outreach service:
Childline Malaysia reaches out to meet the child who dials the free phone number and also focuses on creating awareness amongst the most marginalized group of children in the country through extensive outreach.
  •

Protects children in need of care and protection :
Up to the age of 18 years, regardless of race, religion or nationality. This will include street children, child laborers, children affected by physical / sexual / emotional abuse in family, schools or institutions, children who need emotional support and guidance, children of commercial sex workers, victims of child trafficking, children abandoned by parents or guardians, run away children, children who are victims of substance abuse, differently-abled children, children in conflict with the law, mentally challenged children, HIV/ AIDS infected children, and child political refugees.

  •

Offers support links to children:
Childline Malaysia provides emergency assistance and then refers the child to other organisations for long-term rehabilitation.
